AMES 1 Begins Construction for National Park Service in Remote Alaska

This summer of 2025, AMES 1 kicked off a National Park Service construction project to replace two residential housing buildings at Lake Clark National Park, Alaska (Port Alsworth), which were lost to a fire in 2020.

The new buildings are being designed and constructed for all-season use in the challenging south-central Alaska climate. Given the shortened construction season, the project incorporates rapid and/or modular construction methods. The buildings will also feature energy-efficient systems and resilient materials to extend their useful life.

Through experienced management, along with careful logistics and scheduling, AMES 1 has ensured steady progress despite the challenges of remoteness.

In addition, AMES 1 has greatly benefited from integrating local talent into the project team, fostering efficiency while building meaningful collaboration with the amazing Port Alsworth community.
